Develop: Topic 8 - Course Materials

8-1 Appropriate Materials

Appropriate instructional materials contribute significantly to successful learning experiences. Acquisition or production of materials should be consistent with decisions made during the design phase.

Keep the following considerations in mind as you create and select materials for your course:

  • Course materials should be written clearly and be easy to access.
  • Usability is important to learners and should receive attention during the selection or creation of instructional materials.
  • Instructors and developers must be especially cognizant of copyright issues when creating materials. Contemporary technologies make it extremely easy to violate copyright law, either intentionally or inadvertently. Copyright was addressed earlier in Analyze: Topic 4, Special Considerations.

Developers of the LSU System Online Teaching Model express sincere gratitude

(Supporting Electronic Learning and Empowering Campus Transitions [SELECT]),
which provided funding for
planning, research, and development of this site.
