Analyze: Topic 3 - Available Support and Constraints

3-1 Overview

Institutions often offer assistance to their faculty in online-course development. You need to set aside time to determine the type of support that is available from your institution, including

  • Types of hardware and operating system supported
  • Type of network in place
  • Computer training and/or support
  • Course management system (CMS) for online course supplements and/or courses
  • Instructional design and/or multimedia support
  • Funding and/or release time for online course development

Note: If you are an employee in the LSU System, get started by clicking Lagniappe: LSU System Support in the left column to find contact information for your institution.

A constraint analysis focuses on exploring the factors that may influence the decisions you will make in planning instruction. Many factors affect and constrain course/program plans. Generally, these factors fall into one of four major categories:

  • Time
  • Funding
  • Available Technology
  • Staffing

Developers of the LSU System Quality Online Model express sincere gratitude
to the Louisiana Board of Regents and their Distance Education Initiative
(Supporting Electronic Learning and Empowering Campus Transitions [SELECT]),
which provided funding for planning, research, and development of this site.
